Unshapely Things

 Description from Goodreads:
Unshapely Things by Mark Del Franco

In the alleys of the decrepit Boston neighborhood known as the Weird, fairy prostitutes are turning up dead. The crime scenes show signs of residual magic, but the Guild, which polices the fey, has more "important" crimes to investigate and dumps the case on human law enforcement.

Boston police call in Connor Grey, a druid and former hotshot Guild investigator—whose magical abilities were crippled after a run-in with a radical environmentalist elf. As Connor battles red tape and his own shortcomings, he realizes that the murders are not random, but part of an ancient magical ritual. And if Connor can't figure out the killer's M.O., the culmination of the spell might just bring about a worldwide cataclysm.

Hmm how do I put this book down nicely?  This book is slow.  So slow in fact, that nothing of interest happens until a good 100 pages into the book.  Connor goes about his daily life still struggling to come to terms with his loss of magic abilities.  He collects tidbits of information here and there and when the book starts to get interesting Connor goes right back to describing how he takes his coffee at any temperature...wtf?  I felt no sense of urgency in this book and had to wait until page 253 ( the book is 305 pages) for things to get somewhat engrossing.  In the final fight scene, I didn't really care what happened I just wanted the book to end.
In my opinion this book should have been made into a short story.  All of the endless details about the city, alleys, buildings, and the politics about the fey queen were all pretty much useless in this story.  I get that Del Franco was world building and all but Connor's voice was just plain boring.  He had no spark, no personality, and he was exceptionally dull.  Now if this was a short story, and pretty much the first 8 chapters taken out of the book THEN it would be much more riveting.  Maybe even take out the first 10 chapters!

Oh and I cannot tell you how much it bugs me that the title and author's name on the book cover is in all lower case letters.  Incredibly irritating!!   I've taken the liberty of fixing it to make myself feel better.
Also I would just like to point out how clever they are with their word play on the cover "Down in the Weird, crime isn't black-and-white.  That's where Grey comes in..."  Get it?  Cause his name is Connor Grey?  HA HA! That is good!

Needless to say I will not be reading the rest of this series.  I'll stick to my beloved Dresden Files thank you very much!   (I love you Jim Butcher)

Next up to read is Would-Be Witch by Kimberly Frost.  This is the last author for the F's and then its on to the G's!! woohoo!!

A Slight Outburst

My best friend has insisted that I write a new post to keep her occupied whilst she "cleans."  She's so demanding and I hate to disappoint  <3  Yesterday I went to Half Price Books.  God I love that store.  This is me declaring my undying love for the store with a plane sent to tell the whole world by writing it in the sky.

I ended up leaving with 3 books, which, I think is a pretty reasonable number.  I got Lament by Maggie Stiefvater, (WOW I just noticed that she also wrote Linger. And here all this time I thought she was a new author. I really need to pay better attention to things!) Book of Shadows by Cate Tiernan, and Vampire academy by Richelle Mead.  Since I'm only on F authors it's going to take me a while to get to the new books  :::sigh:::

Speaking of F authors, this will be the last post I do about the Jeanine Frost books.  That is until the new Bones and Cat novel comes out next year  ;)   I finished up Eternal Kiss of Darkness and duh, I loved it.  Kira is by far my favorite heroine of all the books.  In reading this book, I realized how much I really hate Cat.  Every time she talks, it seems like she's talking down to everyone else. Bitch you just turned into a vampire! Get off your high horse! Don't call Kira a "newbie" when you're one yourself.  You and Bones really need to stop acting like you two are the only couple who can break a couple of rules and think no one can say anything about it.  In fact, was it REALLY necessary for you to even be in this book at all? NO.  Take your uncles stupid plane and shove it up your ass you uppity bitch.

Uhh, anyways I still love you Jeaniene Frost, but could you please make Cat less belligerent?

I hope this post was to your liking BFF  :D

Brain Fog

Last night I stayed up till 3am finishing First Drop of Crimson by Jeaniene Frost. I enjoyed the story all though Denise was kind of boring and whiny.

****SPOILERS****

Here's what I didn't like about the book.  The ending felt so rushed I felt cheated.  There are questions I feel still needed to be answered.
For example, Denise killed the demon before she had a chance to get the brands taken off, meaning that  Raum's "essence" was still inside of her.  She states that she knows she will still have shape shifting abilities as well. Does this mean that her blood is still a potent drug for vampires?  And if so, I kind of wish it would have been addressed that she was still in danger of being discovered to have that sort of blood.

*** End Spoiler***

Even with my qualms about the ending and Denise's boring character, I still really enjoyed the book and am now most definetly a fan girl of Jeaniene Frost.

Today I'm starting Eternal Kiss of Darkness.  But before I do let's talk about this incredibly cheesy cover.

Yes, I know it's a tad small of a picture, but if you happen to have the book, you should take a peek at it. Please take note of my lovely circle and arrow in the above picture because that is what I would like to talk about.   Whose idea was it to add that incredibly fake, clearly done in Microsoft Paint, blood?  WHY  WHY WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS?  That fake blood is incredilby unnecessary and completly ruins the cover for me. Bad form!    They should have hired me for this cover.  Take a look at my awesome cover making skills!

Lovely eyes darling! <3

Ahem....sorry for that outburst!  Despite my hatred for the cover I am dyyyinnnnggg to read this book.

Now, as much as I enjoy the Night Huntress Novels and the spin offs, I have to say that I am looking forward to being done with them.  Why you ask?  Because last night after I finished the book and went to bed, I couldn't stop thinking about what the next book would be about.  My mind made up senarios for the characters, and even made new characters.  Thoughts of what the characters dialouge would be went careening through my head all night, swirling about making sure that I would get little peace until I finished the last book.

So thank you Jeaniene Frost for making me so engrossed in your novels that I couldn't sleep. I love you.  Oh and please don't put anymore fake blood on your book covers.

Fail

Read-a-thon fail.  Not that I haven't been reading of course.  It's just that these stupid Night Huntress novels have sucked me in. I'm on the fourth book now and am kind of savoring it because I know the fifth book in the series doesn't come out until next year. UGH I hate waiting for books in series to come out, it's such a long torturous wait, and by the time they come out I have nearly forgotten everything that happened in the previous books.

However, I am enjoying them still, oh and I love Bones.... That is all
