Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish

Top Ten Books for Halloween!

1. Dracula by Bram Stoker.  Ok so technically I haven't finished this book yet, but I am definitely more than half way through and it is awesome.  The freakiest part so far has got to be the ship coming in totally abandoned.  Seriously, what you be thinking if a huge ship came up to shore and it was completely empty?  I'd run like hell!

2. The Bone Collector by Jeffery Deaver.  The title itself is scary enough!

*SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS**  Sorry Brenna!

SERIOUSLY DONT LOOK IF YOU HAVENT READ BREAKING DAWN!!!

3. Breaking Dawn by Stephanie Meyer.  OMG a crazy blood sucking baby that tears its way out of the womb?!  AHHH!!!   oh oops....Spoilers?

*** OKAY YOU CAN LOOK NOW****

4. Memnoch the Devil by Anne Rice. Yeah alright, I wasn't really scared by this book but the thought of having a conversation with the devil kind of freaks me out.

5.  Coraline by Neil Gaimen.  Freakiest children's book ever?  Yes Yes I think so.  The Other Mother is the stuff of nightmares!

6. Angels and Demons by Dan Brown.  What?  I have to read it over again?   DEAR GOD NOOOOOOOOO!!!!   * screams bloody murder*

7.  Frankenstein by Mary Shelly.  Jebus! Can you imagine a freaky sewn together "man" running around in your neighborhood and peaking through your windows with his skin all rotting off?  Ew.

8. Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton.  Yeah ok, once again not really scary.  Humongous dinosaurs eating you is totally  not scary at all.  *whimpers*

*I can't think of anymore books at the moment, so I'm going to switch to movies

9. The Ring.  I don't watch a lot of scary movies on account of the nightmares.  This movie gave me nightmares for 2 weeks.  I slept with the light on for about a month

10. Unsolved Mysteries. I know this isn't a movie but whatever.  There was this one episode that talked about alien abduction and it scared the hell out of me.  I thought the aliens were hiding behind my bed and I refused to even enter my room until my dad checked it out first.  I have never watched that show since.  Plus the narrator guy was scary just by himself...freak!

SPoliers!!!! Spoilers!!! I've been saving Breaking Dawn forever. It's ok though it's my own fault. Great list :)

Awe thanks you're so sweet! But don't worry about it, it really isn't a huge deal I promise :) But I do appreciate you adding the spoiler alert!

I LOVED Unsolved Mysteries when I was younger and I still try to catch it when it's on. But without Robert Stack, it loses some appeal

I've been saying this -- I don't read scary books so I didn't do this list! Ha ha.

But I LOVE your Breaking Dawn comment. LOL.

Oh, Breaking Dawn - SO TRUE. That books was so weird and creepy and bizarre, especially that vampire baby/womb part :(

The Bone Collector is one of Deaver's Lincoln Rhyme novels, I think...I'm pretty sure I saw this movie and it was pretty dang scary. I might try one of these :)

Coraline is a strange one - it seems that adults (myself included) find it quite creepy, but children seem to see it more as an adventure story and aren't frightened by it at all.

I almost included the new Neil Gaiman for kids, The Graveyard Book. I found it quite scary.

Oh man, I almost included Jurassic Park as well. Not sure why I didn't actually—I had trouble sleeping while reading it. Then again, I was in eighth grade.

Great list! I really need to read Dracula and Frankenstein one of these days - maybe next Halloween!!

And how could I have left The Bone Collector off my list? Great book but really gruesome.

I loved Unsolved Mysteries too! But I liked it with the old narrator guy. The one they have now isn't nearly as creepy! Great list!

LOL... Guess I'm not the only one who was squicked out by Breaking Dawn.

Nice list!

Hahaha, yeah, Breaking Dawn...and Stephenie Meyer doesn't like R-rated movies! Probably cause that shit goes on in her head.

I loved the Ring movie, it was so different when it came out. The book is kinda creepy, too :)

omg Unsolved Mysteries creeped me out as a kid, too! Robert Stack's voice is creepy as hell!

I'm glad you're enjoying Dracula so far. I agree with the boat part, it's so creepy. I think Stoker is great when it comes to thinking of subjects or descriptions that can unnerve people.

Memnoch is one of my favourite books ever! Did you find it also helped how she wrote him as a character who could be sympathised with, but still had that underlying manipulation? I haven't read it in ages, so maybe that's been skewed a bit over time...

Haha poor Dan Brown.

I think this is the most entertaining list I've ever read. I literally burst out laughing about the Breaking Dawn bit. That was awesome.

I didn't read Jurassic Park until I was too old to be scared by it, but I remember that when I was little the movie absolutely terrified me. Do you remember the part at the very beginning when that raptor pulls that guy into the cage? I had to skip that part every time because it scared me so much. Yeah.

I just felt sorry for the monster in Frankenstein though. Poor guy.
